About Us

Building Stronger Fathers, Stronger Families

The Lawrence County chapter of Good Dads officially launched in March 2026 with a mission to help fathers grow in their ability to engage with their children and build healthy, thriving families. Our goal is to offer a variety of programs throughout Lawrence County and beyond, beginning in Mt. Vernon and expanding soon into Aurora, Monett, and neighboring communities.

How it Started

Good Dads first began serving Lawrence County in 2024 when the New Pathways courses became part of the regular curriculum for the Whosoever Recovery Program. These classes continue to meet Thursday evenings at Believe Church in Mt. Vernon and are open to any interested men in the community. Many participants have joined independently of the Whosoever program, demonstrating the growing need and interest in fatherhood support and encouragement.

Facilitators Dwight Neher and Dick Clay are excited to transition into the shortened FORGE curriculum while continuing to expand opportunities for men throughout the county.

Looking Ahead

This fall, we hope to launch the Strong Schools program in as many elementary schools as possible, depending on available leadership, interest, and resources. We are currently seeking qualified “School Captains” who are passionate about supporting fathers and families through monthly school-based sessions.

Why It Matters

Families today face tremendous challenges — from economic pressures and rapidly changing technology to evolving social expectations and the increasing prevalence of single-parent and blended homes. Study after study continues to show the vital role that present and engaged fathers play in the emotional, social, and developmental stability of both sons and daughters.

There is tremendous joy in helping men better understand the importance of their role as fathers. When dads improve communication skills, strengthen relationships, share values, resolve conflict effectively, and create happier homes, children gain greater confidence, security, and resilience.

More Than a Message

Good Dads is not only here to spread the message that father’s matter — we are here to support, coach, and equip men with practical tools to love, lead, and raise their children well.

Together, we can help build stronger dads, stronger families, and stronger communities.
