Thank you, Jason, for sharing your insights and wisdom with us for a Presenter Spotlight!
Question: What do you see as the most important factor shaping the future of responsible fatherhood work?
Answer: The willingness of the participants to stay in the process. Humility is key for individuals to receive the truth and graciously look to the future.
Q: What is one myth or understanding you encounter in your line of work (relating to fatherhood or otherwise) that you’d like to bust?
A: Myth: Fathers don’t care about their kids and they are self-centered. Truth: Fatherhood is taught by fathers. The lack of strong male role models has hijacked the next generation. Fathers never learned the “how to.” They must be shown how to be present and what to do. Fathers love their children!
Q: Our theme is “Bringing it Home.” We know that where somebody lives can have a huge influence on their values, priorities and outlooks. Share a little about the place you call “home” and how it shaped you.
A: My father had a nickname for me. As a kid I thought it was cheesy. Now, looking back, my father spoke identity over me. The nickname was “mighty one.” What a powerful statement of strength and fulfillment. This place we call home doesn’t have to be a house. It is where the individuals find belonging and love. It is the place of acceptance. This is what relationships and community is all about!
Q: What is your motto in life?
A: No life is beyond repair!
Q: In your opinion, what difference does it make to families and communities when fathers have the tools they need to be Good Dads?
A: It is critical. I have to say that Good Dads is not tips, tricks, and techniques. It is relationships, community, and influence. The groups create a space for individuals to see others stepping up and into their families. Good Dads creates men who can fulfill the role of “dad”.
Q: What part of your presentation are you most excited to share with reunion attendees?
A: The stories of dads who made it through the Victory Mission journey. Case studies, if you will, of the success faithful walking in the same direction can make. Just keep going!
Q: We’re always on the hunt for insightful and inspiring resources from other great minds. If you have an article, book, podcast, etc., you think reunion attendees would enjoy, please share!
A: Mark McKnelly’s book Change for the Poor. Mark outlines the programming at Victory. The other is Jamie and Donna Winship and the https://www.identityexchange.com/. He also has a book. Knowing our true identity is the only thing producing a clear destiny!
