On Monday evening, Good Dads partnered with Centerstone for a special screening of the groundbreaking documentary Gone Guys at the Moxie!
Representatives from Centerstone and the Drew Lewis Foundation, as well as members of the education and construction sectors, were present for the evening.
“(Gone Guys) highlights the growing issues facing boys and men,” said Scott Lewis, project manager for Good Dads. “The school system — both primary and college — is leaving boys behind, and many men are struggling with mental health, suicide and substance abuse.”
The film features important data and anecdotes from young men, educators, mentors and others on improving mental health, wellness and successful outcomes for men and boys through positive community initiatives (kind of like the work happening at Good Dads)!
At the end of the screening, we held a brief Q&A. Community members discussed the impact of isolation, fear and rejection that can lead to boys and men to fall behind. An increase in community connections and providing support early on were some of the suggestions from the audience.
Here’s where Good Dads comes in: We’re helping kids and communities one dad at a time! A huge aspect of the film was an emphasis on positive role models for young men and boys. Fathers play a pivotal role in being a child’s first impression of what a positive male role model looks like.
From Good Dads FORGE classes on healthy fatherhood skills to Good Dads Strong Schools morning breakfasts with bonding opportunities for dads and kids, Good Dads provides several opportunities for boys and men to learn and grow.

Feeling FOMO?
We want to work with other businesses and organizations to host additional screenings of Gone Guys! We’ve found it to be an immensely helpful conversation-starter about the role of fathers in education, economics and community-building. Reach out to us on our Contact Us page today!
